We’re super excited to share that now you can abstain from voting on a proposal. Now instead of having to vote yes or no, you can abstain.

This is perfect if you are indifferent to the outcome of a specific proposal.

By abstaining, you still count towards “quorum,” the minimum number of votes that need to be cast for a vote to be considered legitimate. This way, you aren’t forced into being for or against a proposal if you don’t have strong conviction either way.

What does this look like in practice?

Let's say your DAO wants to host a dinner in NYC and has made a proposal for which restaurant to go to. You’re not in NYC and don’t have a strong opinion either way as to which restaurant they should go to.

Instead of voting no or not voting at all, you can abstain from voting. This way, you count towards quorum, so the vote will pass or fail and a decision will be made.

Here’s how abstaining works:

  1. Go to a live proposal in a DAO

2. Click “Vote”

3. Choose “Abstain” option

Now you are counted toward quorum, so you don’t prevent the vote from passing.

This feature was requested to increase engagement in DAOs. With the ability to abstain, proposals are less likely to fail for not meeting quorum.

We hope this is a feature you love!
